"LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, July 22, 2011: Yury Savelyev (RUS), the first World Champion of the history of Acrobatic Gymnastics, passed away on July 19. He was 73 years old.

Yury Savelyev took up Gymnastics in his home town Sverdlovsk, the former Yekaterinburg, where he was born in 1938. Under the Direction of National coach of USSR, Viktor Ananevich and coached by Anatoly Sokolov in the CSKA Gymnastics Club, he became together with his wife Galina Savelyeva one of the best Mixed Pair of the international Acrobatic Gymnastics community.

At the first IFSA World Championships in Moscow (RUS), in 1974, Yury and his wife Galina won the first World title of the category."
